Studio Assistant

Summary: As a studio assistant, your role is not to interact with children but to clean and maintain the studio for our visitors. Our studio is a hands-on and child-led facility, therefore it can be a very loud and chaotic space at times. Being comfortable around children in a messy and noisy environment is essential to this role.

 

The Studio Assistant is responsible for general upkeep of all our art stations and other areas in our studio. This position will require some heavy lifting (full buckets of water); flexibility (being on your hands and knees) and endurance (potential long days with lots of cleaning). 

 

What you'll be doing (essential duties):

 

  • cleaning and maintaining art stations in our studio 
  • deep cleaning tools/stations 
  • overseeing visitors in our studio 
  • closing studio 

 

Rate of pay is dependent upon experience.

Programmer (Occasional)

Our programmers help to plan and implement programs focusing on art and sensory experiences for children age 4+. This is an occasional position that would require flexible availability during UGDSB PA Days and other UGDSB school holidays, including winter, March and summer breaks. The successful candidate would act as a back up programmer for any of our full day or half day camps, if a full time programmer is sick or unable to.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Planning and implementing half and/or full day programs focusing on art and sensory based experiences/programs for children aged 4+
  • Getting hands on in the development of process-based art, focusing on the creation of the work rather than the outcome.
  • Customising provocations, documenting, and changing program plans based on children's inquiries and interests.

Qualifications

  • An interest in or previous studies in art
  • Accredited ECE, or working toward an ECE diploma an asset
  • Experience in working with children
  • vulnerable police check
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Understanding of play based philosophy

Rate of pay is dependent upon experience. Starting wage $18/hr

Art Angels (Volunteering at CAF)

We are looking for volunteers to assist our programming staff in our programs. This might be a good fit for students who need volunteer hours to fulfil their high school requirements and/or have an interest in art and teaching young children.

Qualifications:

Committed to being available for at least 2-4 hrs/week either evenings/after school and/or weekends

Interest/Experience in teaching young children in an art setting

* Basic woodworking knowledge or familiarity/interest an asset

*Sewing Machine skills an asset

*First Aid/CPR an asset

*vulnerable police check required for Adult volunteers
